ABOUT UNIVERSITY
Vinnitsa Medical Institute named after N.I. Pirogov and since 1994 the University has been training competent doctors for 90 years. For this period about 44 thousand of specialists have been trained, who work in Ukraine and in many countries of the world.
Now training of specialists is carried out at 53 chairs, where the competent scientific-pedagogical staff works. Among them there are an academician of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, 5 academicians and 5 members-correspondents of Academies of Science, 120 doctors of science, professors, 554 candidates of science, associated professors.
Vinnitsa Medical Institute named after N.I. Pirogov has traditions in educational, research activity, organization of the students’ leisure, maintaining of heartly relations with the graduates.

At Vinnitsa Medical Institute named after N.I. Pirogov 6250 students are trained, including 1500 foreigners. In total about 44000 doctors, among them 2100 specialists of the highest level, possessing the Candidate’s and Ph.D., M.D. degrees, including more than 7500 foreign citizens from 106 foreign countries ofEurope, Asia, Middle East, Latin America, Africa) have been trained.
Annually Vinnitsa Medical Institute named after N.I. Pirogov chairs issue 10-12 text-books of methodics and other educational-methodical materials for the foreign students.
The activity of Vinnitsa Medical Institute named after N.I. Pirogov on training doctors among the foreign citizens, international collaboration and international relations are coordinated by the Vice-rector for international links.
In the structure of management of the international citizens’ education function the department for international links, the dean’s office of the preparatory faculty and the dean’s office for undergraduate and postgraduate international students.

The Preparatory Department is a unique structural department of one of the oldest medical universities in Ukraine – Vinnytsia National Medical University, which is named after the great scientist N.I. Pirogov, whose ideas and practical experience are essential and have a great value for the modern medicine.
The history of the Preparatory Department dates back to 1979. The Department is situated in a beautiful city Vinnytsia, which population accounts about 400 thousand people. One of the most popular places of interest of the city is the National Museum of N. I.Pirogov, that has become a research laboratory for the preparation and development of the new generation of doctors.
During the time of existing, the Preparatory Department has invited more than five thousand foreign students from Asia and Africa, Latin America, Europe and the U.S. Many of the graduates of our university have academic degrees, they are the heads of different health centres, ministries and departments. Now the graduates send their children, friends to enter the Medical University. They personally recommend one of the best universities of Ukraine. The staff of the Department is headed by the Dean – Professor Halyna Leonidivna Vasylenko. At the Preparatory Department there are bright professors – PhD, assistant professors, senior professors, they are highly skilled in teaching the language. The Preparatory Department was created specifically to solve all the initial problems of foreign students and, above all, their problem with the language and communication. The Faculty comprises two Chairs: the Chair of Ukrainian Language and the Chair of Natural Sciences.
The subjects of the curriculum are the following: Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics. There is a system of individual classes and consultations. Teachers prepare students for studying at the main departments. An addition to the academic work, the professors staff carry out a great extracurricular work. They teach students the history of the university, the city, the Ukrainian culture. At the faculty they organize national festivals, friendship celebrations, excursions, meetings and different parties.
There are four comfortable hostels for those who come from different countries of Europe, Asia, Northern America and Africa.
The University has 5 hostels, 4 canteens, 7 buffets. During the period of studies at the University each student is provided with a room in a students’ hostel which is equipped with good furniture, appropriate maintenance service, kitchens, shower rooms and other places of common for some extra charge. In the hostels the passing by regime functions and the appropriate protection is ensured.
For US $ 25-40 per month a place in a comfortable hostel room with a TV set, a telephone, a refrigerator is provided.
Medical aid is provided to all foreign students on the basis of the medical insurance policy. The key medical services are given in the out-patient unit of the University. At the preventive health center of the University, medical assistance and proper diet food are supplied. Free medical consultation by the professors from various specialized departments of the University is available.
On signing the contract of studies with the University, the medical insurance policy is made, which ensures assistance in the medical establishments of our city and Ukraine.
Vinnytsya region was formed on February 27, 1932. It is situated in the central part of the Right-bank Ukraine and consists of 27 districts. It has an area of 26500 km2 (4,5 % of the territory of Ukraine). The population of the region is 1,815,000, including urban population – 882,000 people. Vinnytsya region is located in the forest-steppe zone within the limits of the Podolsk hills. There are nearly 230 rivers within the region, each of them is more than 10 kms in length, and the two major ones are the Pivdennyy Bug and the Dniester. The climate of Vinnytsya is moderately continental with mild winters and warm humid summers. Vinnytsya region has a powerful multi branch agroindustrial complex. There are 5 universities, 453 medical establishments, 31 health-resorts in the region. There are 20 museums, 2 theaters, many cinemas, cultural centres, 1256 clubs in Vinnytsya. The museum of the world famous surgeon N.I. Pirogov is very popular, his body is embalmed and kept in the burial vault near the museum.
Vinnytsya is the administrative, economic, regional centre of Ukraine. The city is located on the banks of the river Pivdennyy Bug, 260 kms to the south of the capital of Ukraine Kiev (3 hours by train), 14 hours by train from Moscow and 6 hours – from Odessa and from Lviv. The city is connected by railway and by air to the western Europe and other countries of the world. The average winter temperature is 5 –10°C below zero, in summer it is usually 22 – 27°C above zero. Vinnytsya is known as a students’ city of Ukraine, it is proud of such outstanding educational institutions as Vinnytsya National Medical University, Vinnytsya National Technical University, Vinnytsya State Pedagogical University, Vinnytsya Trade and Economics Institute of Kyiv National Trade and Economics University, Vinnytsya State Agricultural University.
